Final Fantasy IX – Mini Review!

What is it?

Final Fantasy IX is an RPG made by Squaresoft, shortly before they merged with Enix to form Square Enix. The game is a wonderful throwback to all of the previous Final Fantasy games, with a lovely medieval setting rather than the more modern worlds the previous two games had employed. It follows all the usual Final Fantasy formulae, but as usual, it works well to keep players engaged.

Platform(s)

PC, PS1, PSN

Pros
Cons
Amazing world to explore.
Loads of sidequests.
‘Job’ system returns, kinda.
Brilliant music.
Great story.
Graphics are dated.
HD models look odd.

Verdict:

Final Fantasy IX is a terrific game. It definitely suffers from dated graphics, and the new HD character models on the PC version look incredibly out of place, but on the whole it’s very fun. There are some terrific mini games, plenty of different items to find and completing the game fully is no mean feat. The soundtrack is also a fantastic piece of work and is well worth listening to just on its own. Very much recommend picking this up.
