Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland – Mini Review!

What is it?

Tony Hawks American Wasteland is a skateboarding game for the PS2. Following on from the success of Tony Hawk’s Underground 1 and 2, the series developed a little more, with an attempt at a different kind of story with all new characters. It kind of worked, but there was a lot of disappointing features about the game.

Pros
Cons
More and more tricks to do.
Voice acting isn’t too bad.
Characters are dull.
Locations are fairly boring.
Weird, unbelievable story.

Verdict:

I definitely think that, sadly for Mr Hawk, this game was the start of the decline of his series. It’s not a terrible game by any stretch, but it’s also nowhere near as good as it’s predecessors. The characters are lame, the story is just plain strange and the locations aren’t much to write home about. There are a tonne of new tricks to master though, and anything that gives you more ways of hitting a great combo is always fun. Worth picking up? Probably not, unless you want to see the downfall of a once great video game series.
