AVGN Adventures 1 & 2 Deluxe (Switch) | Mini Review

What is it?

AVGN Adventures 1 & 2 Deluxe is a collection of side-scrollers developed by FreakZone Games and published by Screenwave Media. It features two remakes, and a exclusive third entry, based on the reviews by the Angry Video Game Nerd.

PC, Switch, Xbox One, PS4

Challenging gameplay and creative mission designs. Feels more balanced compared to before.
Some fun vehicle segments.
Plenty of references to the reviews, would make good fan service to AVGN lovers.
Multiple characters in the first game; unlockable abilities in the second allow you to reach new areas and uncover shortcuts.
Notably improved graphics and a great soundtrack.
Cheap ambushes before checkpoints are common.
The second game recycles the same mini-boss frequently, which just pads the game out.
Occasionally frustrating boss battles.
Excessive toilet humour can get tiresome very quickly, unless you’re a mega-fan.
If you die, you’ll lose your power-up, which just feels like a lousy punishment.

Fans of the nerd will definitely get a big kick out of AVGN Adventures 1 & 2 Deluxe. Bundling them together with some well-needed balancing tweaks and visual upgrades does make it a solid buy, thanks to its challenging but brilliantly designed gameplay. It’s a perfect fit on the Switch and runs flawlessly – it’s a good ‘pick up and play’ title that you can simply revisit after short breaks when you’re getting stressed out.
