Cave Story – Mini Review!

What is it?

Cave Story is a metroidvania style game developed all the way back in 2004. Since then, it’s received a bit of a facelift and been put onto Steam, and it’s just as fantastic as it was the day it came out. You take control of a man at the bottom of a cave, apparently suffering with amnesia, and you have to try to prevent a maniacal professor from enslaving a race of your friends.

Phenomenal graphics.
Great array of weaponry.
Brilliant story.
Nifty little secret for the top players.
Updated soundtrack is a bit disappointing.
Sometimes hard to decipher where to go.

I first played Cave Story back when it was relatively new, back in 2005. It was absolutely fantastic back then, and it still is now in it’s latest game. A glorious mixture of challenge and fun, with some wonderful graphics and a brilliant soundtrack. It was, and still is, amazing that it was developed by only one guy. There’s no other way of putting it – this game simply has to be played, and you should really pick it up as soon as possible.
