Embracer Group recently bought out both 3D Realms and Gearbox Software in an unexpected investment. According to TweakTown, an investor’s meeting with the companies took place, Randy Pitchford — CEO of Gearbox Software and the current owners of the Duke Nukem IP — revealed an interesting nugget of information regarding the series.
“We’ve also acquired Duke Nukem and Homelands, and have have some great projects in development for all of these intellectual property that Gearbox has control over.” He went on to say that they “have new intellectual property in development.”
Could it be a new Duke Nukem game? Legal disputes ever since the disappointing release of Duke Nukem Forever have prevented a few titles to be released, some of which led to lawsuits (see Duke Nukem: Mass Destruction). However, with both 3D Realms and Gearbox Software under the wing of Embracer, perhaps a new title in the series may finally be possible.
