Cheating in video games is pretty commonplace, but why do we do it? Do we want to fulfil a power fantasy with unlimited ammo and health, or is there a boss battle too annoying to bypass by fair means? Well, if there’s one thing that players don’t seem to have a lot of patience for, it’s a time-consuming, brain-straining puzzle.
The crew at OnBuy Gaming looked into which are some of the hardest puzzles in gaming, and the ones that players cheated at the most, from a survey of 2,700 participants.
Highlights from the research include:
- The ‘Corridors of Time’ puzzle in Destiny 2 had 307,680 yearly Google searches for the solution.
- The game puzzle that takes the the most time to complete (176.88 minutes on average – almost 3 hours!) is the infamous ‘Water Temple’ in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
- The runners up are from The Elders Scrolls V: Skyrim, and they include the Volskygge puzzle which takes roughly 132.62 minutes to accomplish, and the Fahlbtharz Boiler Room puzzle that takes about 104.56 minutes to solve.
